This question was addressed by a series of thesis projects by students in the Master of Architecture program at UC Berkeley along with a conference held in early For much of the twentieth century, extensive highway systems were built along rivers and waterfronts often degraded by industrialization until cities worldwide began to restore water resources and reconnected urban infrastructure with natural ecosystems.
The Conference was anchored by CED Visiting Scholar and architect Francisco Burgos from Spain, whose team won the competition to design the redevelopment project recently completed along the Rio Manzaneros in Madrid.
